I got surprised today....

A few weeks ago Tom suggested that he wanted to have a BBQ or something with all our friends for my one year sober. I mentioned to him that Aubrey might be planning something, he replied. "We'll see."

A few days ago I was talking with Aub and reminded her that it was only a few days till my soberness of one year, the thought came to me out of the blue. When I told her how close the date was getting she replied, 'What brought that up? Did you look through my phone or something?' After that I had the feeling that maybe she was planning a surprise but I pushed the idea out of my head.

Today Aub and I made plans to go eat Indian food after we dropped the big kids off with their other dad. The Indian place was closed so we decided on Thai food. We headed to Chang Mai after we left the big kids other house but we missed a turn. I asked Aubrey 'Didn't you want to turn there?' She started giggling and shrugged her shoulders. I then knew something was going on. I pounded her with questions though she would not answer any. It isn't until Tuesday that I will be one year sober but I assumed whatever she was doing had something to do with that. We drove to the Walmart by our house when she said she needed paint, and thats what this detour was about. When we were crossing the intersection I saw Tom walking into the Applebees in the Walmart parking lot. Then I saw Matt, Lubi, and J-rad. I saw my parents car, I saw Sam and Codys and Peanuts car. Oh boy did I get surprised.

I found out later that Aubrey had set this surprise dinner up weeks ago with the help of Tom. It was a lot of fun. All my friends pitched in and got me a Barnes and Noble gift card and my parents bought me 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' on DVD and also a Applebees giftcard. It was tons of fun, and my food was really good. Atticus was surprisingly good most of the time with so many people to hold him. Until the end when he started screaming resulting in people giving us dirty looks. Then he tried biting Peanuts finger! With no teeth even!

I wanna say, I have a wonderful wife. I am so thankful for her and am curious how amazing she is. Wow. I love her so much, I wish I could show how appreciative I am of her. I was truly surprised an enjoyed myself. She is constantly making my life so much more wonderful in so many ways.

Thank you Matt, Peanut, Sam, Cody, Noble, Tom, J-Rad and Owen for the gift card. Thanks for coming too, and thanks Mom and Dad and my sis, and Lubi for coming.
